Caravan Fire Pit
The Patented Caravan Fire Pit with Built-in Grill & Hotplate Storage
Patented in Australia
You've just pulled in to camp after eight hours on corrugations, and a caravan fire pit shouldn't be another chore to set up. Tyre Fire® is the only one on the market with a patented integrated grill & hotplate storage system - the grill, hotplate and accessories travel mounted on the pit itself, on your spare tyre, not loose in your van. No competitor can offer this, because the design is protected.

That difference matters more than it sounds. A standard spare tyre fire pit makes you carry the cookware separately - a grill bag here, a hotplate sleeve there, bolts in a Tupperware container if you're organised. Ours stows it all on the pit, and the pit stows on the spare tyre, so the whole cooking system costs you zero cargo space inside the van. For caravanners chasing every kilo and every cubic foot, that adds up fast.

It's also built to live outdoors permanently. Food-grade 420 stainless steel. An M8 bolted chassis at the high-stress joints, so thermal expansion flexes the structure instead of cracking welds. Plenty of caravan fire pits warp after a season of hot fires; the ones that fail almost always rely on welds the manufacturer hoped would hold. This one doesn't ask the welds to be heroes.
Designed in Australia, the Tyre Fire® caravan fire pit fits any spare tyre up to 320 mm wide, which covers the vast majority of caravans, camper trailers, and 4WDs sold here. Most caravan fire pits force a one-size-fits-most compromise - ours doesn't. Here's how to check whether yours is a match.
Will It Fit Your Caravan?
Tyre size compatibility
The Tyre Fire® fits any spare tyre up to 320 mm wide - that covers the vast majority of caravans, camper trailers, and 4WDs sold in Australia. If you're running a 265/75R16, a 235/85R16, a 285/70R17, or just about anything with a stamped sidewall width of 320 or less, you're in. Most fire pits for caravans aren't this accommodating. Easiest check: read the first number on your tyre sidewall (the section width in millimetres). If it's 320 or below, you're good to go.
Weight & mounting
The complete kit weighs 12 kg. It sits over your spare tyre on standard rear tyre carrier - no brackets to fabricate, no fuss with, no tools required. The geometry hugs the tyre so the pit stays put across corrugations and on rough tracks, and it won't push your spare carrier past its rating. If you're already carrying a spare, you've already got room for a Tyre Fire® caravan firepit.

How the Patented Storage System Works
Set-up in under 60 seconds
Pull in to camp, lift the pit off the spare tyre, and put it on the ground. Light it. That's the whole set-up. There's no assembly, no bolt-bag, no instructions to reread because last time was a year ago. Most caravanners can do it one-handed while still holding a beer. Compared to a flat-pack fire pit for caravan use - which typically needs 10+ minutes of slotting panels together and chasing wing nuts - the Tyre Fire® is ready before the kettle's boiled.
Pack-down: grill & hotplate travel ON the pit, not in your van
Here's the line you won't read on any other product page: the grill or hotplate clip into the pit base and travel mounted ON the spare tyre with the pit. This is a patented design - competitors have to store their cookware separately. What that means in practice: nothing to bag up at pack-down, nothing rattling around in a drawer, no last-minute "did you grab the hotplate?" mid-way down the highway. Anyone who's done long trips knows how easy it is to leave gear at a campsite - the Tyre Fire® system removes that risk by design. The cooking kit stays with the cooking system, every single time.
Why Caravanners Choose the Original Tyre Fire®
Patented integrated grill & hotplate storage (no one else can do this)
This is the feature that built the brand, and it's the one no rival can copy. The grill and hotplate are shaped to nest against the pit body, secured by the same geometry that mounts the pit to the spare tyre. There's nothing exotic about it once you see it - it just works, and that's why it's patented. From your point of view as a caravanner, the day-to-day result is this: no extra cookware box in the van, no soft bag rolling around in a kitchen drawer, nothing left at the last campsite. You pack down the pit, and the entire cooking kit packs down with it. No other fire pit on the market offers integrated on-pit storage, because the design is protected by Australian patent. If you've seen anything that looks similar, look closer - it isn't.
Stainless steel that won't warp — M8 bolted chassis
The pit is built from food-grade 430 stainless steel and the chassis is bolted together with M8 hardware and captive nuts welded in at every high-stress joint. The reason matters: when stainless steel gets hot, it expands. Welded joints can't move, so they take the load until they crack. Bolted joints have a few thousandths of slip in them, which is enough to absorb the thermal expansion and release it on cool-down. That's why a Tyre Fire® comes through five seasons looking like it's done one, and it's why most welded caravan spare wheel fire pits start warping by the end of summer.

Comparison vs flat-pack fire pits
Flat-packs are the most common alternative, and on paper they look fine. In the bush they're a different story. A typical flat-pack needs 10+ minutes of assembly at the start of every trip, swallows real cargo space in the van, has welded joints that crack with use, and still needs a separate bag for the grill - which is exactly the bag that ends up forgotten under a swag two states over. The Tyre Fire® has no setup, costs you zero cargo space, uses a bolted chassis that won't crack, and the grill stores on the pit itself - patented and unique to Tyre Fire®. If you're choosing between caravan fire pits this season, the comparison's pretty short.

FAQs from Caravanners
Will the Tyre Fire® Caravan Fire Pit fit my caravan's spare tyre?
If your spare tyre is 320 mm wide or less, it fits. That covers almost every caravan, camper trailer, and 4WD sold in Australia - including most of the popular 16″ and 17″ off-road sizes. The number to check is the first one stamped on your sidewall (the section width in mm). If it's 320 or below, you're good.
How heavy is the caravan fire pit?
The full kit weighs 12 kg - pit body, grill/ hotplate, and mounting hardware included. That's light enough to lift off the spare tyre with one hand at camp, and it sits comfortably within the load rating of any standard rear or roof spare carrier.
Do I need tools to set it up at camp?
No tools, no assembly. You lift the pit off the spare tyre, put it on the ground, and you're done. The grill and hotplate clip on or off the pit body by hand. Most owners are ready to light a fire within about a minute of pulling in.
Does it warp like other stainless fire pits?
The chassis is bolted together with M8 hardware at every high-stress joint instead of being welded. Welded joints can't flex when the steel heats and expands, so they take the load until they crack - that's why most welded stainless pits warp after a season or two. Bolted joints absorb that movement and release it on cool-down, which is why a Tyre Fire® keeps its shape long-term.
Can the grill and hotplate really travel ON the fire pit?
Yes - this is the patented feature that makes Tyre Fire® different from everything else on the market. The grill and hotplate bolt onto the pit body and travel mounted on your spare tyre with the pit itself. No other caravan fire pit can offer this, because the design is protected by Australian patent. In practice, the entire cooking kit travels as one unit: no separate bag, no extra box in the van, nothing to forget at the campsite.
Is the Tyre Fire® patented?
Yes. Tyre Fire® holds an Australian patent on its integrated grill and hotplate storage system. That's the reason no competing fire pit offers on-pit storage - they're not legally able to. If you spot a "similar" product without the patented storage, it isn't actually similar where it counts.
